Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is a state-owned telecommunications service provider in the metro cities of Mumbai and New Delhi in India and in the island nation of Mauritius in Africa. As it is Public state-owned enterprise it is a public Authority under section 2 (h) of the RTI Act. MTNL has been given Navratna status in 1997 and was listed in New York Stock Exchange in 2001. The Government of India currently holds 57% stock in the company with the rest being held by public and institutional investors.
